Crossing the Jordan

Faith to take the first step, presence to open the way

MONDAY

A NEW BEGINNING IS NOT THE END; IT IS THE START

KEY TEXT | Joshua 1:9


REFLECTION

The people had left Egypt, crossed the desert, and received new leadership. Moses died, but God's work did not stop. Joshua was entrusted with the mission to lead the people forward. The new beginning given by God is never a final point; it is a calling for a new stage. Baptism, a decision of faith, or restoration do not end the Christian walk. They place us in the presence of new paths, new responsibilities, and a purpose that requires courage. Joshua was not called because he felt ready, but because God would be with him. Security was not in Joshua's experience but in the Lord's presence.


PRACTICAL APPLICATION

  • Identify an area where God has already given you a new beginning, but you are still stuck.
  • Write down what the next concrete step is that needs to be taken.
  • Do something simple and objective in that direction today, without waiting to feel completely prepared.

    • PRAYER

    Father, thank You for Your unceasing work and for the purpose behind Your new beginnings. Deliver me from treating a new opportunity as a place of complacency. Grant me strength, courage, and obedience to move forward, trusting that Your presence will go with me. In Jesus' name, amen.


    TUESDAY

    EVERY PURPOSE HAS A JORDAN

    KEY TEXT | Joshua 3:15-16


    REFLECTION

    The Jordan was overflowing. God could have chosen the dry season or a simpler path, but He did not. The barrier was part of the revelation. The river was not there to cancel the promise but to show that its fulfillment would not depend on favorable conditions. Many times we interpret difficulty as a sign that we have made a wrong turn. Not always. There are obstacles that are not closed doors; they are scenarios in which God intends to showcase His faithfulness. The promise does not become less true because the river is full. The size of the barrier only makes it clearer who will be glorified when the way opens.


    PRACTICAL APPLICATION

  • Name your current "Jordan": a financial, familial, professional, emotional, or ministerial difficulty.
  • Instead of just repeating the problem, write down which truth of God needs to govern your response.
  • Throughout the day, replace complaints with a declaration of trust.

    • PRAYER

    Lord, in the face of waters that seem to hinder my progress, I choose to remember that You remain faithful. Do not allow me to confuse difficulty with abandonment. Reveal Your glory in this circumstance and sustain my heart as I walk toward the purpose. In Jesus' name, amen.


    WEDNESDAY

    THE WAY OPENS AFTER THE STEP

    KEY TEXT | Joshua 3:13


    REFLECTION

    The river did not open while the people simply watched. The priests had to touch the water. God did not ask them to open the Jordan; He only asked them to take the step. Opening the way was God's responsibility. Walking in obedience was theirs. Mature faith does not say, "When everything is resolved, I will obey." It responds: "Because God spoke, I will start." Waiting for complete guarantees before acting may seem prudent, but often it is just disguised fear. The first step does not need to be large; it needs to be obedient. God does not require you to produce the miracle; He requires you to trust enough to move.


    PRACTICAL APPLICATION

  • Choose an action that you have been delaying out of fear: initiate a conversation, ask for forgiveness, serve, organize an area of your life, seek help or take on a responsibility.
  • Take the first possible step today.
  • Do not try to control the outcome; just obey what has already been made clear.

    • PRAYER

    God, I recognize that I often wait to see the way open before I obey. Forgive my unbelief. Grant me faith to place my feet in the water and courage to do my part, leaving the impossible in Your hands. In Jesus' name, amen.


    THURSDAY

    THE PRESENCE GOES BEFORE

    KEY TEXT | Joshua 3:6


    REFLECTION

    The ark went ahead because it represented the presence of God. The people were not called to seek shortcuts, opportunities, or seemingly safer paths. They were called to follow the presence. This principle remains valid: the best path is not necessarily the easiest, fastest, or most profitable; it is the one that God is leading. The psalmist declared that even though he walks through the valley of the shadow of death, he would not fear because the Lord was with him. God's presence does not automatically eliminate every valley, but it completely changes the way we cross through. When the presence goes ahead, the obstacle ceases to be the center. The center becomes who guides.


    PRACTICAL APPLICATION

    Before making an important decision today, pause for a few minutes. Ask yourself: “Am I only seeking an opportunity, or am I discerning God's direction?” Pray, examine your motives, and do not choose solely by what seems easiest. Prioritize what preserves obedience, peace, and fellowship with God.


    PRAYER

    Holy Spirit, go before me. Do not let me chase shortcuts that lead me away from Your will. Teach me to value Your presence more than favorable circumstances. Even when the path goes through valleys, sustain me with the assurance that You are with me. In Jesus' name, amen.


    FRIDAY

    TURN THE OBSTACLE INTO A MEMORIAL

    KEY TEXT | Joshua 4:6-7


    REFLECTION

    After crossing, God commanded that twelve stones be taken from the middle of the Jordan. The stones had no power of themselves. They served as a memorial. The place that almost seemed to hinder progress became a source of testimony for future generations. God does not waste the rivers we cross. What seems confusing today may tomorrow become a story that strengthens children, friends, disciples, and siblings. The obstacle does not need to become a permanent trauma; in God's hands, it can become a mark of His faithfulness. Spiritual memory is important because it prevents us from forgetting that we did not come this far by our strength.


    PRACTICAL APPLICATION

  • Create a memorial today.
  • Write a short testimony about a situation where God made a way for you.
  • Register the problem, what God taught, and how He sustained you.
  • Share this testimony with someone in your family or church so that God's faithfulness is not kept only in your memory.

    • PRAYER

    Father, thank You for the Jordans we have already crossed. Do not let me forget what You have done. Turn my struggles into testimonies and my marks into memorials of Your faithfulness. May the next generation also know Your power through what You have lived with me. In Jesus' name, amen.
